Governance
Our school is part of Forward As One CE Multi Academy Trust; within the Trust’s Articles of Association and Scheme of Delegation, the Forward As One Trust Board is the decision-making body and is accountable and responsible for the Trust and its academies. Each academy and their school leadership team is supported by a Local Advisory Board (LAB).
Governors on our LAB deploy their expert knowledge of our school's local community to provide support and challenge to school leaders. Governors work closely with our Headteacher to ensure that the school remains deeply rooted in the needs of our pupils, families, and community.

Nick Jones - Chair of Governors - Foundation Governor
I have been a member of the St. Anne’s Local Advisory Board since January 2023 and served as Vice-Chair. I have been Chair of the LAB since September 2025. My areas of responsibility on the board include supporting the Headteacher as well as finance, health and safety, compliance, auditing the School’s Website and I have also been involved in recruitment as a representative of the LAB. I have over 17 years of Primary School Governance experience in the primary sector including serving 5 years as Vice-Chair and 8 years as Chair. I am a member of St. Anne’s Lydgate Parochial Church Council and I have been a Trustee of a Multi Academy Trust. I am Managing Director of a local company and have previously worked in both Local Authorities and Universities.
I am passionate about the education, welfare and protection of children and young people, to ensure that they are given every opportunity to succeed and grow into well-rounded individuals. I am committed to supporting the high expectations, quality teaching, pastoral care and Christian ethos of the school and I am thrilled to be part of the team ensuring that we always have the highest of expectations for ourselves, pupils and wider community.
Gloria Beckett - Local Governor
I’m a recently retired nurse who has had a variety of experience working in the NHS and local council with older people services, district nursing and in my latter years, working in the Public Health Dept leading on Health Protection for Oldham residents.
Whilst I have no children of my own, I have always been interested in my family and friends children’s education and schooling as I know how much a positive experience shapes their lives and future. Therefore, it’s a privilege to be involved with the governor role especially concentrating my skills on the Safeguarding and SEND agenda.
Susie Mortin - Vice Chair of Governors
As a mother of 3 children, one of which has been through St Anne’s, one currently at the school and one who will hopefully attend in the future, my role of parent governor enables me to reflect on the past, focus on the present and anticipate the future.
As a teacher myself, I am able to support and challenge the school, enabling us all to strive for a high quality provision and education for all of our children.
The progress made and well-being of all children is my main priority whilst having a parental viewpoint.
My passion is early years and the foundation stage of children’s learning. I strongly believe once this is taught and delivered properly, children have the ability to grow, thrive and achieve. From a parent perspective, I can see our school fulfils this which creates a building block for the children and sets the time for our children’s future learning.
It is an honour to be part of St Anne’s CE Lydgate Primary school and its governance.
Michael Unsworth - Parent Governor
I'm a recently elected parent Governor, having one child at the school and another starting this year.
I work for a Multi Academy Trust and have 25 years of experience working in a variety of roles in schools and Trusts - with a focus on business management, finance and operations. I have over 12 years experience of being a Governor at a Church of England secondary school in another Trust and am currently the vice chair.
I have a lot of experience of SEND in schools alongside the key operating aspects of schools and Trusts. I have worked with Department for Education colleagues on developing systems for school operational leadership.
I am passionate about improving the outcomes for all pupils irrespective of their setting, needs and personal circumstances. I have high expectations of the school to provide a high quality educational offer alongside a Christian ethos and to be part of the team supporting the school is a great honour.

Russell Learmont - Headteacher
I have been in post at St Anne's CE Lydgate since January 2020. The school has flourished over the last 6 years and we are incredibly proud of our pupils and our strong community.
We are proud members of the Forward As One CE Academy Trust and together we strive to deliver the very best for all our pupils. Within the wider Trust I am involved in the delivery of NPQs as a 'fellow' and facilitate study groups as required.
I have been a headteacher in various schools with differing contexts since 2015. I am always excited for the potential within our pupils and for the challenges we face, to ensure that they have the absolute best we can offer them. It is always a pleasure to work with other governors, from different walks of life - we can all learn so much together!
